Hayes Performance Systems Acquires Reynolds Cycling


MEQUON, USA – Shortly before this year’s Interbike in Reno/Nevada it was already rumoured. Yesterday evening the final decision was announced: US bicycle components supplier Hayes Performance Systems, owner of the brands Hayes, Manitou, Sunringlé, ProTaper MTB and Wheelsmith, is taking over the carbon-fiber wheel expert Reynolds Cycling LLC. The acquisition comes after months of intensive discussions. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Eyeing the acquisition, Hayes Performance Systems CEO Phil Malliet says, “We intent on growing our presence on the global cycling market and Reynolds is the perfect fit to expand our market reach and wheel products portfolio. With Reynolds, we now cover the entire market from alloy Sunringlé mountain wheels through a complete offering of Reynolds carbon wheels.”

Engineering expertise

According to Hayes Bicycle Group President Darren Campbell, “Reynolds is a leader on the carbon fiber wheel market, with extensive carbon engineering expertise, company-owned manufacturing production facilities, and a premium brand innovation position. We believe our company complements their capabilities to continue the growth of the carbon wheel segment in the future.”

Reynolds Cycling was founded in 2007. Since 2017 CEO Scott Montgomery leads the Salt Lake City-based company. According to Montgomery, “Our team has put together Reynolds’ best collection of wheels ever for 2019 with a complete line of innovative designs to meet the performance demands of the road, mountain, gravel, and emerging e-bike markets. With Hayes, we are poised to expand our global dealer and distributor network and are on the cusp of bringing in new, world-leading OEM brands.”

Presentation at Taipei Cycle Show

The first presentation of the newly acquired Hayes’ brand, Reynolds Cycling, is at Taipei Cycle 2018. The show starts next Wednesday and runs from 31 October to 3 November. In Nangang exhibition center Hall 1 at booth M1028 representatives of both Hayes and Reynolds will meet with customers, share the news, and are available to answer questions.
