Wahoo Fitness Acquires Pedal Expert Speedplay

ATLANTA, USA – High-end bicycle pedal expert Speedplay has been taken-over by fitness equipment specialist Wahoo Fitness. “The Speedplay product range is complementary to our increasing line-up of high-quality indoor- and outdoor-cycling products,” announced Wahoo. The purchase price remains undisclosed.

San Diego based Speedplay is Wahoo’s second acquisition within three months since the company took-over the indoor training app ‘The Sufferfest’ last July. The self-acclaimed ‘leading developer of training apps and networked fitness equipment in indoor- and outdoor-cycling’ Wahoo wants to turn Speedplay’s technological leadership into new products in the category pedals.

Common approach

“Wahoo and Speedplay share a common approach of leveraging technology to develop products that enhance the performance of cyclists,” states Wahoo Fitness founder Chip Hawkins. “Speedplay pedals are the most innovative, high performance pedals available so it’s a perfect fit with Wahoo. We welcome the opportunity to offer another edge to ‘Wahooligans’ around the world with the best pedals in the business.”

Compelling products

Speedplay CEO Richard Bryne adds that: “when Sharon Worman and I founded Speedplay, it was because we wanted to solve problems performance athletes were having in reaching their full potential. By becoming part of the Wahoo family, we can carry that mission to more athletes with more compelling products than ever before.”
