BREDA, Netherlands (January 21) – Euretco, a € 1 billion-plus buying association active in several retail sectors in the Netherlands and Belgium including the bicycle business, is taking up the sale of 12 Bikeworld stores that Halfords Holland was not able to operate with sufficient profitability.
Halfords Holland which is not connected to Halfords in the UK, announced last December to stop the Bikeworld formula and to put its 12 stores up for sale. The sale is now being handled by Euretco Tweewielers, the bike division of the buying association. Eurectco Tweewielers will offer the 12 shops to its members/dealers. The former Bikeworld shops will be transformed into shops that operate under one of the bike retail formulas of Euretco. The Dutch/Belgian buying association offers three shop formulas to its member/dealers which are called Profile Pro (for big sized shops), Profile ‘Fietsspecialist’ and ‘Fietswereld’. The ‘Fietswereld’ formula was started in July 1999 and opened its 50th shop in February 2001.
With the transformation of the 12 former Bikeworld shops into one of the Euretco formulas, the Dutch buying association is knocking a contender out and will increase its already big market share. Together with the 12 former Bikeworld shops and the 50 ‘Fietswereld’ shops, the buying association is expanding rapidly and operates now with over 300 outlets from its member/dealers in The Netherlands.
