ZEG CEO Honkomp: ‘E-Bikes Are Our Growth Driver
COLOGNE, Germany – Europe’s biggest e-bike retailer is Germany retail organization ZEG. The dealer cooperative saw its sales in this segment increase sharply last year. And CEO Georg Honkomp holds high expectations for an even bigger growth in the next three years.
CEO Georg Honkomp is interviewed in Bike Europe’s April edition that reaches its readers tomorrow. In this interview Honkomp digs deeper in ZEG’s future and the role e-bikes will play.
On how important e-bikes currently are for ZEG top manager Honkomp says: “We never mention specific numbers. But we can say that our volumes in the e-bike range – as we work with the most important e-bike suppliers such as Accell, Derby, Pon, and KTM – is well over 150,000 units.”
Strengthening of dealers
The huge growth in e-bike sales in 2012 in Germany is regarded by Honkomp as: “One of the most striking phenomena which contributed to a significant strengthening of the dealers.” By 2016, ZEG expects to have doubled its sales in this category on which he says further: “Viewing our members’ strength and the outstanding service their shops offer, we see this development as very realistic.”
In the interview ZEG’s CEO elaborates further on the specific challenges e-bikes pose to dealers and how the biggest dealer cooperative in Europe is supporting its 850 members in Europe with approximately 1,000 sales outlets.
