World Bicycle Industry Association Joins United Nations Meeting on Transport
GENEVA, Switzerland – The in January 2018 founded World Bicycle Industry Association (WBIA) has been invited to attend the 2019 session of the United Nations’ Inland Transport Committee (ITC). This meeting took place last week. The ITC is the highest policy-making body of the United Nations in the field of transport.
In the course of the last 72 years, together with its subsidiary bodies, the United Nations’ Inland Transport Committee has provided an intergovernmental forum, where United Nations Member States come together to forge tools for economic cooperation and negotiate and adopt international legal instruments on Transport.
The 2019 edition was expected to mark a milestone in its history: the Committee decided on the adoption of its strategy until 2030. The main topics included in such a strategy were Road Safety governance and dynamics in the era of the United Nations Road Safety Trust Fund, automation, Intelligent Transport Systems and digitalization.

The delegation of the World Bicycle Industry Association that consisted of representatives from the Industry associations of Japan, US and Europe took part in the ITC meetings and had fruitful talks with the Transport experts of the United Nations. As a world-wide Industry representation, WBIA is committed to work closely with the United Nations’ policy makers to strengthen the development of the Bicycle, Pedal-Assist E-Bike and Parts & Accessories Industries at global levels.
