It results in a tariff exemptions for bicycle lights and helmets. Earlier, last August, Chinese-made e-bikes and e-bike motors were hit with a 25 percent tariff.
More tariffs to come
The report by the U.S. trade journal also mentions that President Trump has more measures lined-up in his escalating trade war with China. He has said that more tariffs on USD 267 billion worth of additional imported products are to be announced in the event of retaliatory actions by China.
The American industry has indicated in consultation rounds with the government that they totally disagree with the levies on the import of Chinese bicycle products. According to the country’s biggest bicycle importer – Huffy Corporation – it will even have devastating impact on bike sales and it will devastate the American bicycle industry.
