E-Bike Revenue Share Climbing to Record Highs
AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands – Last June the revenue share made with e-bikes stood at 50% at Dutch IBDs. This record high was not reached with a double digit sales increase. In fact the number of e-bikes sold dropped by 3% due to a cold and rainy start of the month.
According to the monthly Dutch bike sales monitor by GfK Retail and Technology Benelux BV, the e-bike record revenue share was thanked to a 6% increase in average retail prices.
Bike sales in volume
In June Dutch IBDs (accounting for 85% of all sales in the country) saw their bike sales in volume drop by 1.5% while the revenue ended at the same level as in June 2012. City Bikes performed well with a 4% growth in volume. Also MTB/ATBs did well with the 29-er trend now accounting for 4 out of every 10 sold mountainbikes.
Revenues made with Trekking/Touring; Kid bikes and Sportshybrids/Race dropped respectively with 14%, 5% and 19%.
