Australian Bike Market Valued at 760 Million Euro
SYDNEY, Australia – In 2012-2013 bicycle imports in Australia equaled 1.4 million units. The imports of adult bikes increased by 21% compared to 2011-2012 while children’s imports declined by 7% in the same period.
This was reported by the cycling trade organization ‘Bicycling Industries Australia’. According to their annual report the value of the Australian bicycle market, including accessories amounted 760 million euro.
Online overseas sales of cycling gear
According to the Australian Online Cycling Marketplace Report a lot of Australian cyclists purchase from overseas retailers. With the high cost of living in Australia, online overseas sales of cycling gear is a multi-million dollar industry and is growing. The Australian cyclists have purchased cycling gear from overseas stores, motivated by price savings and the range of products online stores offer.
Chain Reaction Cycles
In this report, the value of overseas sales is estimated between 7% and 16%. The well-known UK based online retailers Chain Reaction Cycles and Wiggle account for approximately 4% of the total market.
