SRAM Takes Next Step in Tyre Development
CHICAGO, USA – SRAM’s high end wheel brand Zipp has introduced an all new line of road race tyres at Eurobike. The company already started in tyres in 2007 and in close cooperation with the industry leading manufacturer took the specifications of the road race tyre to the next level.
When Zipp introduced its Tangente tyre line-up in 2007 the R&D team primarily focused on leading edge airflow properties and how the tyres interfaced with the Zipp rims. They concentrated on the development of the tyre casing and tread compound, but not on the rolling resistance.
For the new Tangent tyres Zipp not only maximized the airflow, but also optimize the rolling resistance. The new Tangente tyre line-up comes in three models: Course, Speed, SLSpeed.
The Tangente Course is a clincher with the insurance of a puncture protection belt. It features a 120 tpi casing, supple ride and low rolling resistance. The Tangente Speed is designed for racing. The low-weight Tangente Speed clincher features a 220 tpi casing with thin sidewalls for low rolling resistance and biting grip in the turns. The handmade Tangente SLSpeed is a dedicated racing tubular, featuring a 320 tpi cotton casing for a super supple ride and extremely low rolling resistance.
