Decathlon Steadily Expanding Store Count in Benelux Countries
DOETINCHEM, The Netherlands – The world’s biggest sporting goods retailer is steadily expanding the number of stores in the Benelux countries of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Beginning next year Decathlon’s Benelux store count stands at over 30.
End of November Decathlon opened its 6th store in the Dutch city of Breda. This store offers a total floor area of 4,200 m² and besides a repair service there are zones to test products as well as a large outdoor area with playgrounds for football, hockey, skating, table tennis and basketball. The offer in Breda consists of over 47,000 products for 65 sports of which Decathlon offers a wide variety of own brands, including B’Twin for bicycles.
Largest inner-city sports shop
In the second quarter of 2016 Decathlon is to open its 7th store in the Netherlands. This one will be located in the city centre of Rotterdam at the prestigious Coolsingel and will have a total floor area of about 5,000m². With that it will be the largest inner-city sports shop in the Netherlands.
Big Belgian presence
With this 7th store in Holland the sports retailer will expand its store count in the Benelux to 31. In Belgium Decathlon offers currently a network of 24 stores. The reason for the much bigger presence of Decathlon in this country is due to the fact that Dutch retailers often oppose the arrival of the sports chain in their cities. City councils are also reluctant to the coming of scaled retail.
From Oxylane back to Decathlon
Recently the world’s biggest sporting goods retailer changed it Group name again. Apparently Oxylane wasn’t appropriate enough so the company name is again Decathlon Group.
