Novatec’s Versatile Alpine Wheelset
TAICHUNG, Taiwan – Joy Industrial Co., ltd’s premium brand Novatec recently released a new wheelset for 2016 called the Alpine. It has been positioned as the ‘Swiss-Army knife’, or the most versatile wheelset for XC, trail, to light enduro riding.
The Alpine surpasses Novatec’s most popular wheel, the Diablo, with its 23mm internal wide rim, its six pawl fast engagement hub, double-square nipples, and ABG (anti-bite guard) freehub body.
What is so different about the Alpine? Well, the most notable difference is the weight. The Alpine comes at a very respectable 1,680 grams for the 27.5 version and 1,730 grams for 29er. That’s nearly 200 grams lighter than its enduro focused counter-part, the Diablo. This weight reduction puts the Alpine right in the middle of the light weight trail offerings on the market.
Novatec accomplished this weight reduction through the use of a new parabolic rim, which distributes forces more evenly across the rim. This allowed them to use less material to reduce weight without losing strength. The weight reduction makes this wheelset feeling light and lively when steering on both technical trails as well as steep climbing.
