Bike Production in Spain Scores Small Growth
MADRID, Spain – Unit wise the growth is marginal and stands at only 2.5%, but it’s still an increase. Total bicycle (including e-bikes) production in Spain stood at close to 360,000 units in 2017; 8,700 more than in 2016. Value wise the production scored a likewise plus, indicating that e-bike production levels are still low in Spain.
According to the latest data offered by the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda, in Spain 359,586 bicycles were manufactured in 2017; 8,703 units more than in 2016. This figure represents a growth of 2.49%. Production in the first quarter of 2017 stood at 72,447 bicycles, in the second at 98,134 bicycles in the third at 88,229 and in the fourth quarter at 100,776 units.
Value wise the 2017 production represented a figure of 100.5 million euro while this accounted for 98.5 million euro in 2016. According to the figures from ‘Estadística de Fabricación de Vehículos Automóviles y Bicicletas’ this represents a 2.0% increase.
BH and Orbea are Spain’s major manufacturers. Last April Orbea announced to have started modernizing its facilities.
This operation is also intended to rethink each and every step in Orbea’s manufacturing processes as the company wants to be able to deliver its bicycles and e-bikes faster which fits the company’s switch to an omni-channel distribution strategy in various European countries.
