Update on Graphene; Wonder Material to Bring ‘Smart’ Clothing and Accident-Free Mobility
New York, USA – Where does the use of Graphene stands now? Is the use of this revolutionary material in the cycling market still limited to the hi-end tyres made by Vittoria? What’s to come in the very near future? What’s predicted now is that the use of Graphene will become widespread, in ‘wearables’. It brings ‘smart’ clothing with everybody being internet connected leading to accident-free mobility.
It is not the first product that you expect for the use of Graphene to take off. But clothing is where its use is predicted to become widespread. After rubber that is. More products made with rubber are to make use of the unprecedented characteristics that Graphene offers at tyres with high air-tightness, lower rolling resistance and better grip. U.S. Based Verge Science predicts that the next breakthrough for the use of Graphene is to happen at wearables; at wearables like clothing. With clothes that are connected.
Widespread use in rubber products
Last March Bike Europe reported on new patents that were announced by the only Graphene producer in Europe; Directa Plus. This company also received bigger orders for Graphene that had been placed by the one and only bicycle tyre maker using this wonder material; Vittoria.
Interesting is that Verge Science statements of a more widespread use of Graphene in rubber products matches with the new Directa Plus patent which is about the “Elastomeric composition comprising graphene and tyre components”.
Next to more car, motorcycle and bicycle tyres made with compounds that hold Graphene, also wearables are coming that make use of a form of carbon which is Graphene. At its site Verge Science it is said that “For the past 15 years, consumers have been hearing about this wonder material and all the ways it could change everything. Is it really almost here, or is it another promise that is perpetually just one more breakthrough away?”
‘Clothing with graphene wearable electronics’
That breakthrough is to come in clothing that have Graphene wearable electronics. A Verge Science video says that this is already coming in 2019.
Such ‘Graphene wearable electronics’ are made possible because Graphene is easy to print on fabric and because the wonder material offers unmatched conductive properties.
Such ‘smart’ clothing brings us closer to a world where everybody and everything is internet connected. It also brings us closer to accident-free mobility. Recently Bosch predicted that “By 2025 there will be more than 470 million connected vehicles with connected driving to be a growth area.
