Apple’s Main Battery Supplier Turns to E-Bikes
HUKOU, Taiwan – At this year’s Eurobike one of the big names for batteries presented itself. The multi-billion Simplo Tech Group (SMP), headquartered in Taiwan, debuted at the Friedrichshafen show. This battery maker, which is the main supplier for Apple computers, notebooks, tablets and i-phones, presented itself through one of its subsidiaries; Trend Energy Technology Co. Ltd.
Simplo Group Tech Energy boasts of 20 years of experience with processing Li-Ion cells.
The fact that this battery maker was for the first time at Eurobike doesn’t mean that it is new to the e-bike market. Trend Energy Technology is producing SMP batteries for Yamaha as well as Accell Group, Brose, Decathlon, Shimano, Specialized etcetera.
Generation 2 batteries
At Eurobike the company presented its SMP Generation 2 batteries which come in various versions; even up to 800Wh. For downtube fitting there are 360Wh versions while for In-Tube the Trend Energy batteries have a 700Wh capacity. The availability ranges from 3.5Ah up to 5.3Ah and 36V.
The battery packs made by Trend Energy are for the Aftermarket marketed under the TrendPower brand. They are made from the conventional 18650 cells while the company also used the new 21700 cells.
