Mid-motor E-bikes Available in Most Price Ranges
TAIPEI, Taiwan – The Taipei Int’l Cycle Show early March underlined that e-bikes are increasingly leaving their mark on all sections of the two-wheeler. The offering in mid-motor e-bike systems is increasing rapidly and soon they will be available in much more price ranges.
The most well-known mid-motor newcomer is off course, Shimano but there are more. Shimano’s e-bike system STEPS will be specified on various brands this autumn at the dealershows and at Eurobike. is a good example of a mid-motor newcomer.
At the same time also Europe’s biggest e-bike seller– Accell Group with its various brands like Raleigh, Winora, Ghost, Lapierre, Batavus, Sparta, Koga and more – will launch its ION e-bike drive system in a mid-motor version.
Some other mid-motor newcomers at Taipei Cycle were AEON, GreenTrans and MPF Drive. One of these suppliers reported that his system is an inexpensive alternative to Bosch. How inexpensive? For e-bikes that retail for around 1,700 euro. Is that to be the reference price for an e -bike with mid-motor in 2015?
Another topic among ‘e’ specialists in Taipei was the issue of the “Bosch effect”. This refers to the fact that (especially in Germany) consumers ask for a Bosch e-bike. They do not ask for an electric bike of a particular brand.
