Taichung Bike Week Kicks Off With Mixed Feelings
TAICHUNG, Taiwan – The addition of a fifth location, the Lin hotel was a clear sign that the Taichung Bike Week is still growing compared to previous editions. The event started today will continue until next Friday. The number of companies presenting new products is again up 15% to 460 this year as the event fulfils a leading role in the annual product development and specification cycle.
Spread out over five Taichung hotels, the Tempus, the Evergreen, the Splendor, the Millennium Vee and for the first time this year, the Lin, plus hundreds of meetings and presentations in factories, offices, hotels and restaurants spread over the city, it is the meeting place for bicycle component brands who want to introduce their new products to OEM customers.
Years of growth
Just like all other shows, its looks as if also the Taichung Bike Week has to deal with major changes in the market. After last year’s edition, show initiator and at that time co-organizer Steve Fenton said: “following some years with huge growth, the Taichung Bike Week has reached its cruising altitude.”
The Taichung Bike Week is not the kind of event like Eurobike or Interbike with jam packed corridors. Though the hotels don’t count the number of visitors several exhibitors expressed their concern that the 2016 edition is less dynamic compared with the past years. “The meetings are scheduled like any other year, but the number of people passing by is less,” said one of the exhibitors in the Evergreen hotel.
