FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, Germany – “The bicycle industry is increasingly focusing on urban mobility,” concluded the organization overlooking the number of entries submitted for the Eurobike Award.

Early August a six-strong panel of judges faced the challenge of selecting the innovative highlights for the next model year out of 458 entries, 14 less than last year.

For the second time, this year’s process included a digital preselection phase, during which a twelve-strong panel undertook an initial selection from the Award entrants. A total of 259 new products made it through this first round to secure a place in the shortlist of candidates for a Eurobike Award. On 9 and 10 August, the expert panel met in Friedrichshafen to take a close look at the competition entrants as well as to test and then finally evaluate them.

According to Eurobike the members of this year’s panel not only supplied the necessary expertise but, thanks to their well-balanced mix of talents, also guaranteed that all subject areas really were covered. The members of the jury for the 2017 Eurobike Award were: Ernst Brust of, Artefakt founder Tomas Fiegl, German pedelec expert Julia Milan, Spanish trade specialist Fran Garcia, Joel Natale, Head of Purchasing of British Evans Cycles and Amsterdam’s Bicycle Mayor Anna Luten.

Which new products have been honoured with a Eurobike Award will not be revealed until 30 August, the first day of the Eurobike show. The award ceremony will take place in the West Foyer of Messe Friedrichshafen as from 5.30 pm. Among them will also be the winners of the newly introduced Start-up category.
