The Bike Europe Conference on ‘Behind the Scenes of Online Sales’ takes place on 7 July at Messe Friedrichshafen, one day before Eurobike starts. The main theme of the conference has everything to do with the inevitable presence of online shopping consumers. What’s needed to adjust to this market reality? Data exchange is one of those topics.

Retailers, customers and suppliers

“The target of Bidex is to take digital solutions for retailers to a next level with creating new standards and services for exchanging data between retailers, customers and suppliers,” says Bidex Data Project Manager Thomas Schwerdtner.

Founded in 2015, Bidex is a German consortium aimed at for instance at creating enhanced standards for data exchange in order to, for example, “Check online the availability of certain bicycle models in specialist shops. Even the bike manufacturer cannot say at which dealers the desired model in the wanted color and frame size is available for interested consumers. With that, many sales opportunities are missed.”

“Up until now it was not possible for consumers to check the availability of certain bicycle models in specialist shops online. Even the manufacturer of the requested model could not say which dealers have in stock. One of the first digital services from Bidex is bike.local which delivers exactly this functionality.”
