ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands – The upcoming 2nd World Cycling Forum features an impressive line-up of keynote speakers. One of them is Dr Fiona Bull; Program Manager in the Department of Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) at the World Health Organization (WHO) based in Geneva, Switzerland. This keynote explains the business aspects that go with increased physical activity, disease prevention and sustainable transport in which cycling can play a vital role.

United Nations sustainable development goals

Fiona Bull’s presentation will explore two of the United Nations sustainable development goals (SDG) which are relevant for cycling namely SDG-3 (health & well-being) and SGD-11 (sustainable cities and transport). Dr Bull leads the global work on physical inactivity, healthy eating and the prevention of obesity at the WHO. In 2014, Dr Bull was awarded a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to public health.

WHO and cycling benefits

Enhancing public health through cycling brings economic, environmental, health and other sustainability benefits. How the World Health Organization views these benefits and how this organization connects this to its global work on increasing physical activity in order to prevent obesity, will be explained by Dr Bull in a presentation which is scheduled at the first day of the 2-day World Cycling Forum.

Forum’s agenda

The theme of the 2019 World Cycling Forum is “Putting the Bicycle Industry at the Core of Sustainable Development.” The Conference will be kicked off by opening keynote speaker Carlo van de Weijer. He is THE world expert on future urban mobility who advises ministries and industries around the world on the future of mobility. He will be followed by the WHO’s Dr Fiona Bull.

Other keynote speakers on the Forum’s agenda include representatives from Decathlon, Vittoria Industries, the Mayor of London’s Office, the World Employment Confederation, Technical University of Delft, University of Cambridge, CONEBI, University College London/, the international transport forum as well as world experts on future urban mobility.

The Forum’s Agenda also includes Q&A and wrap-up sessions. The moderator is Marc ter Haar, strategic relationship director at Ernst&Young, the Netherlands.
