NEW YORK, USA - When the pandemic started in March 2020 the US bicycle business was fully import dependent. 95% of all bicycles sold in the country were primarily coming from China. In other words, the US bicycle business was completely dependent on globalisation and the global supply chain. But "the golden age of globalisation is ending," fears US market specialist Jay Townley.

THE HAGUE, the Netherlands - 27 internet resellers have been warned by the Dutch transport authorities to stop offering their fatbikes. Research showed that they offer e-bikes that go faster than 25 km per hour and/or have a higher power than 250 watt without approval. Such e-bikes must have a type approval.

KARLSTEIN AM MAIN, Germany - ZF Micro Mobility GmbH is expanding its service location in Karlstein am Main alongside expanding its service capacities. With a 50% increase in staff at the location, the service centre remains the main point of contact for Sachs dealers worldwide.

PARIS, France - Vélogik, a French company based in Paris, is specialised in the management and maintenance of e-bikes fleets. Created in 2008, the company has registered a turnover of €15 million in 2022 thanks to its activity in France and in other European countries including the UK.

FRANKFURT, Germany - The demand for e-bikes with a belt drive system is growing. Although Gates Carbon Drive has a sizeable share of the existing market, there are now gaps for newcomers to enter the market. One of these is Yung Fang Plastic Co. Ltd who displayed its belt drive system at this year's Eurobike.

EINDHOVEN, the Netherlands - The fourth edition of Shimano's state-of-the-nation, makes clear that the growing cost of living is perceived as the most important reason to ride an e-bike. Whether this will mean an ongoing increase of e-bikes or bicycles in general, is not revealed by the Shimano study.

VILNIUS, Lithuania - Pon.Bike is rapidly expanding its reach in the e-bike and bicycle industry. The latest development came with the company's announcement to open a factory in Lithuania and step up its production close to the market. A statement published last week by YIT Corporation reveals more details on this project.

BERLIN, Germany - The German industry association ZIV has taken over the chairmanship of the Cargobikes Working Group at European level. Jointly organised by the Confederation of the European Bicycle Industry (CONEBI) and Cycling Industries Europe (CIE), the working group is concerned with legislation of cargobikes for both private and personal use.

CHICAGO, US - Component manufacturer, SRAM, is extending its presence in the Italian market by opening a new Technical Service Support Centre. Developed in partnership Italian distributer Beltrami TSA the new service centre will be fully operational as of January 1, 2023. A new distribution deal with Accell will also begin next year.
