    SOLOTHURN, Switzerland - The Swiss bicycle trade can look back on a successful 2019: the number of bicycles sold increased to 363,497 units, an increase of 5.2%. The sales growth in 2019 doubled compared with 2018. The market expansion was mainly due to high demand for e-bikes, where the market share increased from 32.3 to 36.6%, the industry association Velosuisse reported.

    BRUSSELS, Belgium - Eurostat import figures for the first four months of 2020 clearly point to the fact that the impact of COVID-19 on e-bike imports in the EU-27 countries is limited to a small decline of less than 3%. Notwithstanding the supply chain constraints and even order cancellations, these latest statistics once again mark the importance of the e-bike for the industry.

    Subscribers only EU-27 bicycle imports decline by 15% as Taiwan switches focus to e-bikes

    BRUSSELS, Belgium - In contrast to the e-bike imports into the European Union, the bicycle imports declined significantly during the period January - May this year. The total import volume dropped by more than 15% from 2,577,256 units in 2019 to 2,181,239 this year. Taiwan's focus on e-bikes has a big impact on the top-ranking positions of bicycle exporting countries to the European Union. In line with last year's trends, China's export volumes to the EU-27 continues to increase.

    Cross-industry platform to support safe battery transportation

    BRUSSELS, Belgium - A new information platform for the safe transportation, testing and packaging of battery cells, batteries, and vehicles and equipment containing batteries has been launched. BatteriesTransport.org is a joint industry initiative of eight industry associations for batteries and battery-powered products, including LEV trade association, LEVA-EU.
