Belgian bicycle market drops 18% in 2023

BRUSSELS, Belgium - In Belgium, over 18% fewer bicycles were sold in 2023. Sales decreased from nearly 700,000 to 569,605 units, according to figures shared jointly by Traxio and GfK. However, there are no concerns for the longer term. The e-bike is expected to be the cornerstone of the Belgian market, with specialist retailers playing an essential role in sales.

Belgium now biggest growth market for e-bikes

BRUSSELS, Belgium - The Belgium bicycle market recovered remarkably from the sales dip in 2021 caused by supply chain constraints. The total market volume increased by 19% from 584,913 units in 2021 to 685,871 bicycles and e-bikes last year. Like in many other EU markets, also in Belgium it was the e-bike that took up the majority of the sales growth.

Supply issues cause growth in Belgian e-bike market to falter

BRUSSELS, Belgium - The total sales in the Belgian bike market fell by 1.2% in 2021, turning the tide on the 4% growth seen in 2020. A drop in e-bike sales and the sportive segment, which were both hampered by limited availability due to the supply chain problems, contributed to the overall decrease.
