BERLIN, Germany - After two excellent bicycle sales reports for 2014 and 2015, the German industry organization ZIV announced today less positive market results for 2016. Last year the volume of combined sales for bicycles and e-bikes declined by 6.9% compared with 2015, to 4.05 million units.
BERLIN, Germany -Thanks to the growing popularity of the e-bike, the German bicycle market is in pretty good condition. In 2014 the market volume increased by 8% while 2015 showed a 6.6% growth to 4,350,000 units, reported the national industry association ZIV.
BERLIN, Germany - The German market saw solid growth in 2014, in particular for e-bikes. Close to 8% more bikes were sold in Germany last year. A total of 4.1 million bicycles and e-bikes were traded. The average value per bike sold to the consumer was up to a record breaking €528.
BERLIN, Germany - A long winter and a rainy summer caused bicycle shipment to the various distribution channels including dealers to drop by 5.5% in Germany last year. Shipments reached a total of 3.75 million units (including e-bikes). The good news: while unit sales dropped value wise the market remained relatively stable.
Thanks to the growing popularity of e-bikes, the Germans continue to spend more money on cycling. According to the 2011 sales statistics on the German bicycle market published by the country's industry organization 'Zweirad Industrie Verband' (ZIV) total sales value was up 8.8% to just under € 2 billion.
