    Accell Group to close Dutch factory and centralise production in Hungary

     HEERENVEEN, the Netherlands - In a new move to better its financial position, Accell Group is further centralising its production capabilities. After more than a century, bicycles will no longer be produced at its site in Heerenveen, the Netherlands. The factory is expected to close by the end of Q1 2026, and production will be integrated into existing manufacturing facilities in Hungary. The closure will lead to a loss of approximately 160 jobs.

    Bike24 raises 2025 outlook after strong Q2 performance

    DRESDEN, Germany - Online bicycle retailer Bike24 Holding AG has reported its strongest quarter to date, posting double-digit growth in sales and profits in the second quarter of 2025. The company's CEO and founder, Andrés Martin-Birner, attributes the company's continued financial success to a number of company-wide decisions.

    European component manufacturer sees further contraction in e-bike motor market

    SCHRAMBERG, Germany - The market shows initial signs of a measured rebound, though the improvement still has yet to extend across the entire supply chain. The manufacturer of e-bike drive components, hGears reports that, "the sales volume of e-bikes in Europe during the first half of 2025 is estimated to be roughly on par with the previous year, but European e-bike production has not recovered as expected."

    BERLIN, Germany - E-bikes are the spearhead of electromobility in Europe. Over the past 10 years, e-bikes have fundamentally transformed the European mobility market. At the same time, stakeholders have become more diverse. The German research institute zNT assessed the discussion on the regulatory framework for e-bikes and concluded: if you want to change the regulations, you must not only provide technical arguments, but also prove that what has been achieved will not be jeopardised.

    Swapfiets reports significantly reduced losses in 2024

    AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands - Despite still being in the negative, Swapfiets has reported significantly reduced losses last year. The Amsterdam-based company, and subsidiary of Pon Holdings, recorded a net loss of €14.2 million in 2024 — 14% less than the previous year.

    7Anna files for insolvency as cycling industry faces post-COVID shakeout

    GDANSK, Poland - Polish manufacturer 7Anna, owner of the cycling brands Rondo, NS Bikes and Creme Cycles, has filed for insolvency. A Polish industry leader in recent years, the 24-year-old company had become known for its diverse range of bikes, from Rondo's gravel bikes to Creme's urban riders. "We are in ongoing talks with investors and we have strong hopes that these negotiations will end successfully. If this plan works out, our brands and team will be able to continue moving forward, and we may even shift into fifth gear," explains founder Szymon Kobylinski in an update on the company's status.

    Q2 e-bike import figures put a dampener on EU market recovery

    BRUSSELS, Belgium - During the first six months of 2025, 312,000 e-bikes were imported into the European Union, the latest data from Eurostat shows. This is a 9% drop compared to the same period last year. As predicted, the positive signs of a full market recovery in Q1 have not continued into Q2. As Taiwan struggles to regain its dominance as the European e-bike supplier, Cambodia and China continue to increase their share of the market.
