Gert-Jan van Breugel of the Dutch design agency, Modyn, explains how technology mainly associated with an e-bike has given design trends a new impetus. "The bicycle is really diversifying," he tells Bike Europe.

ZEIST, the Netherlands - The number of job vacancies for supply chain managers in the bicycle industry hiked last year. Previously, a dedicated position or even a department was only customary at big companies. That's no longer the case. In the bicycle industry the meaning of 'supply chain' has changed radically over the past two years.

2020 and 2021 gave a push to cycling as never seen before. The industry gave everything to handle expanding demand despite supply chain constraints and booming transportation costs. Was this effort enough to keep the consumers engaged? 2022 will be the year in which it will become clear whether the bicycle and e-bike have really become the preferred urban mobility mode.
