For years, the evolution of e-bikes followed a predictable path: mechanical refinement gave way to electric assistance, which extended our range and flattened our hills. Today, however, a new era is unfolding. The future of cycling is no longer just about adding power to pedals; it is about intelligence, connectivity and seamless system integration.
Launch at Eurobike
At Eurobike, the launch of this fully connected, intelligent platform marks a bold leap forward. Driven by the philosophy ‘Shift Your Perspective is More Than a Claim’, the company is positioning itself not merely as a component supplier, but as a trusted enabler and innovation partner shaping the future of global e-bike mobility.
“System X represents our vision for the next generation of cycling technology,” says Eric Zhang, CEO of Gobao’s e-bike business. “We wanted to completely rethink what an e-bike platform can achieve when drive technology, software and connectivity are developed in harmony as a single, intelligent ecosystem.”
We help e-bike brands bring highly customised, next-generation concepts to market”
ECVT: The invisible shifting revolution
At the heart of Gobao’s System X are the new X1 and X1P drive units. The central engineering breakthrough is the absolute integration of a high-performance electric motor and an Electronically Controlled Variable Transmission (ECVT) into a single, compact housing.
For the rider, the message is simple: Ride. Don’t Shift. The best shifting experience is having no manual gears to worry about.
Using advanced software, the system continuously monitors cadence, torque, speed and gradient in real time. It automatically adjusts the transmission ratio to keep the motor running at its peak efficiency point. This results in smooth, silent and uninterrupted power delivery, significantly minimising mechanical wear and eliminating traditional gear maintenance.
While the high-torque X1 handles everyday urban and trekking demands with up to 120Nm of torque, the performance version X1P pushes boundaries further, delivering 150Nm of torque for demanding cargo, SUV and e-MTB applications. Crucially for e-bike manufacturers, both power units share identical mounting dimensions, offering maximum design flexibility across entirely different e-bike concepts.

AI-enabled digital architecture
True intelligence extends beyond the mechanical drive. Gobao’s System X is built upon an AI-enabled open digital platform that connects the e-bike, the rider and cloud services into one ecosystem. This digital infrastructure includes an AI-based ride controller, an intelligent battery management system and advanced digital service tools.
Via the Gobao App, riders and dealers stay connected to the e-bike before, during and after every ride. The digital platform provides real-time system diagnostics, over-the-air software updates, customised motor tuning and intelligent troubleshooting assistance. This turns the e-bike from a standalone machine into an evolving smart device.
“By integrating artificial intelligence into every layer of the ride architecture, we are helping e-bike brands bring highly customised, next-generation concepts to market with zero compromise on performance,” Mr Zhang explains.
We are providing a powerful, fully integrated foundation that frees our partners to focus entirely on building extraordinary e-bikes”
CCU: Advanced safety and integrated protection
Security is deeply embedded through the Central Control Unit (CCU). Operating as the digital brain of the e-bike, the CCU manages communication between all connected components while prioritising rider safety and asset protection.
Riders benefit from a comprehensive suite of active security features, including active anti-theft protection, GPS geo-fencing, a digital-battery-lock, remote e-bike tracking and smartphone-based unlocking. By blending hardware security with smart digital keys, the system provides peace of mind and complete control.
Supercharging capability
The platform also dismantles a pain point in modern e-bike travel: charging times. Powered by a 1.5kW supercharging technology, the system can charge a high-capacity 750Wh battery from flat to 80% in just 20 minutes. This drastically reduces downtime, redefining the practical limits of daily e-bike utility for fleet operators, commercial cargo riders and everyday commuters.

An enabler, not just a supplier
“Gobao positions itself as an enabler for OEMs. We empower brand owners to achieve success via our open, customisable platform, which unlocks unique differentiation opportunities for each OEM. This, in turn, helps OEMs gain greater market recognition for their brands,” says Mr Zhang. “Our success is inseparable from our clients’ success. A customer-centric mindset is a core pillar of our company’s corporate culture.”
With mass production of System X scheduled for February 2027, the brand is backing this advanced engineering with a robust service ecosystem. To keep e-bikes moving and minimise retail downtime, a Direct Replacement Strategy allows dealers to swap modular components immediately from dedicated service stock while replacement parts are dispatched in parallel.
“Ultimately, 'Shift Your Perspective' means proving that these complex technologies belong in a singular, unified platform,” concludes Mr Zhang. “By bringing together our automatic ECVT drive, an AI-driven digital architecture, deep CCU safety features and game-changing supercharging, we aren't just selling individual parts. We are providing a powerful, fully integrated foundation that frees our partners to focus entirely on building extraordinary e-bikes.”
