    Shimano sees big opportunities to enhance market potential

    OSAKA, Japan - Shimano regards 2023 as an "in-between year" as Marc van Rooij, President Shimano Europe Group already explained at Eurobike. This is reflected in the financial results for the first half of 2023. The Japanese manufacturer reports a net sales decrease in bicycle components of 17.7% to JPY 204,986 million (€1.3 billion) year-on-year, and operating income decreased 39.5% to 42,093 million yen (€270 million).

    German fleet and subscription startup Cycle Mobility raises €10.3 million

    BERLIN, Germany - Describing its business model as a "full-service mobility solution for delivery services and couriers," Berlin-based startup Cycle Mobility Holding GmbH has successfully finalised a Series A financial round. The total €10.3 million cash injection is planned to drive the company's e-bike B2B2C- as well as B2B- business fleet and subscription business.

    Ciclo Fapril expands dedicated cargo bike frame factory

    AGUEDA, Portugal - Ciclo Fapril is expanding its Alufap unit by another 12.000 square meters. Dedicated exclusively to the production of frames for cargo bikes, long-tails and carriers, the expansion is expected to be completed in April 2024 and fully operational within a year.

    German motorcycle accessories giant enters market with own cargobike

    FRANKFURT, Germany - One of the world's major motorcycle accessories suppliers SW-Mototech debuted its own cargobike during this year's Eurobike. The Via 1 will be fully assembled in Rauschenberg, Germany and should be available from spring 2024.

    Arevo stops 3D-printed SuperStrata bike production

    HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam - 3D-print frames were regarded as the next step in mass production of high-end frames. In January 2021, the Silicon Valley-based company Arevo invested $19.5 million (€17.8 million) in a high-tech factory in Vietnam. This operation has been terminated.

    Recycling ocean waste for use in bicycle tyres

    FRANKFURT, Germany - An industrial nylon yarn for bicycle tyre casings made from recycled fishing net plastics from the sea, this is the concept of Taiwanese specialist Formosa Taffeta. As brands and manufacturers look for more responsibly sourced materials for their products, the company can already count Maxxis as a client, with more top tyre brands following suit.

    FRANKFURT, Germany - Weber Fibertech, a specialist in the development and manufacture of long fibre-reinforced thermoplastic parts is expanding its activities in the bike industry.     No reorganisation for insolvent Greenstorm Mobility as closure looms

    KUFSTEIN, Austria - E-mobility service provider Greenstorm has filed for insolvency. With investor talks failing and the sales concept not covering costs, there will be no reorganization of the company due to a non-functioning business model. "A closure of the company will take place soon after the opening of insolvency proceedings," the insolvency consultant has declared.
