    Private investment prepares Wilier Triestina for sustainable future

    ROSSANO VENETO, Italy - With the recently announced investment of private investor Pamoja Capital SA in Wilier Triestina, the 1906 founded traditional Italian bicycle manufacturer aims to expand its presence on the world market. How much Pamoja Capital, a family-run Canadian investor based in Switzerland, paid for their minority stake, has not been disclosed.

    PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - Data from Cambodia's customs department indicate that the country exported 1.1 million bicycles to the European Union in the first half of this year. The bicycle exports were valued at €205 million between January and July.

    Belgium investor Colruyt puts €10 million in bicycle retail chain

    GENT, Belgium - The take-over by supermarket owner Colruyt in 2019 saved the future of the Belgium bicycle retail chain Fiets!. A year earlier Fiets! already filed for chapter 11 and that was not without reason. According to a publication in Belgium newspaper De Tijd, Colruyt had to invest another €10 million in Fiets! to make it future proof.

    French start-up eBikesLabs launches crowdfunding for international expansion

    GRENOBLE, France — French start-up eBikeLabs has launched a crowdfunding on Wiseed. Since eBikeLabs creation in 2015, a group of more than hundred people have invested €1.2 million and enabled the company to collect more than €3 million in total. Currently, already 70% of eBikeLabs' turnover is generated on the international market.

With a recent launch in the German city of Berlin, Dance, which was founded by a team which includes the founders of the shared music platform, Soundcloud, aims to capitalise on the urban e-bike boom.

    Subscribers only Italy confirms strong position as e-bike and bicycle manufacturer

    MILAN, Italy - Both assembly and sales of e-bikes are on the rise in Italy. The production of e-bikes last year strongly expanded by 209% to 213,000 units. Domestic production of regular bicycles also increased by 7% to 2,625,000 units. The Italians have really embraced the advantages of the e-bike as nationwide sales went up from 173,000 units in 2018 to 195,000 last year.

    Shimano's bicycle components sales slide double digit in first half 2020

    OSAKA, Japan - In its financial statement of the first half of 2020 the Shimano Group reports a decline in sales of its bicycle component segment of 14.6%. From the same period of the previous year, bicycle components turnover slid to JPY 122,6 million (€992 million), and operating income was down 19.7% to JPY 22,96 million (€186 million).

    Billions invested to get Brits back on bikes

    LONDON, England - The UK government has set aside £2 billion (€2.2 billion) to improve the cycling infrastructure in England. In what should be a boost to the bicycle industry, the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has said the ambitious plans are part of measures being taken to solve the obesity problem in the country.
