    TAIPEI, Taiwan - The production and export of e-bikes has proven its importance for Taiwan's bicycle industry last year. Throughout 2019 the Taiwan Bicycle Association (TBA) already indicated that the export of e-bikes was expanding rapidly. The official export statistics of the Taiwan's Customs Administration and the Ministry of Finance now provides the full picture of the booming e-bike exports.

    Subscribers only E-bikes continue to penetrate the French market

    PARIS, France - The French market has recorded a new increase in bicycle sales in 2019 according to the French Bicycles Observatory published by the Union Sport & Cycle. Last year, the market reached a total of 2.329 billion euro, an increase of 10 percent. Bicycle sales represented 1.502 billion euro (+12.6 percent) for 2,652,099 units (- 2 percent), including 388,100 e-bikes. The P&A segment also increased with a turnover of 827 million euro (+ 5.9 percent). Thanks to the augmentation of the e-bike market, the average price is still growing at 566 euro compared to 493 euro in 2018.

    Household appliance giant forms industrial partnership with e-bike maker

    PARIS, France - Angell, the bike project launched by Marc Simoncini and Jules Trecco in 2018, has partnered with household appliance manufacturer, Groupe SEB, in an exclusive arrangement. The group will be responsible for the industrial development and production of Angell smart bikes at its long-standing Is-sur-Tille plant in Burgundy, France. Groupe SEB is also supporting the project by acquiring a stake in Zebra, the company that produces and markets Angell, through its SEB Alliance investment vehicle.

    ADAC enters e-bike sector with subscription service

    MUNICH, Germany - ADAC, Germany's automotive and mobility club, and the largest in Europe with 21 million members, has partnered with the start-up Rydies to launch a monthly e-mobility subscription service called e-Ride. The service will offer e-bikes and e-mopeds for use throughout Germany.

    Corona makes Shimano rethink its supply chain

    OSAKA, Japan - In its financial statement of the first quarter of 2020, the Shimano Group reported a downturn in sales since mid-March. The company also pulled its full-year business performance forecasts. The situation has changed drastically since last month. "Bicycle assemblers in Europe are seeing a surge in orders and retailers in the US are running out of stock," said Shimano's CEO, Yozo Shimano.

The award process has been adapted in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has also seen the physical show date of Eurobike move to November. The digital award ceremony and start-up pitch will now take place on 2nd September a couple of months prior to the physical event.
