BERLIN, Germany - The 2015 sales statistics presented this morning by industry association ZIV show that the German bike market performed outstandingly. Cycling has become a popular again in Germany resulting in an increase in sales and production of bicycles, e-bikes, parts and components on the home market as well as in export.

AGUEDA, Portugal - Taiwan's Fritz Jou Manufacturing is opening a bicycle factory at Bike Valley Portugal. The company announced this at the Taipei Cycle Show last week. It's a major step forward in the 'bringing production back to Europe' initiatives and the reshoring project of the European bicycle industry.

TAIPEI, Taiwan - The contrast was big at last week's Taipei International Cycle Show. The previous international industry outing - Eurobike, showed tremendous dynamism. At the 29th Taipei International Cycle Show there was less of that to be found. The reason for the more sedate mood in Taipei has everything to do with markets moving in opposite directions.

TAIPEI, Taiwan - The latest statistics released by the Taiwan Bicycle Association (TBA) show that Taiwan's bicycle export increased by 10.04% in 2015. Total export value reached 1.74 billion euro, compared to 1.58 billion euro in 2014. Also Taiwan's bicycle parts export rose last year by 5.45%, with total value reaching just over 1 billion euro.

TAIPEI, Taiwan - At the Taipei International Cycle Show which had its second day today and still has two more to go, a cooperation came to light between a renowned e-bike battery supplier and Bafang and Brose. The company is called Hi-Tech Energy and turns Bafang and Brose into a complete drive system supplier for taking up the competition with (among others) Bosch, Panasonic and Yamaha.

TAINAN, Taiwan - "In volume we provide 85% of the OEM market and 15% of the after-market," said KMC vice-president marketing and sales Deborah Wu. "In turnover, the bicycle chain represents only 16% of our group's turnover of €231 million. "28% is generated by the motorcycle chain business and 56% by the automotive industry and industrial applications of chains."

TAIPEI, Taiwan - The Velo-city 2016 Global Conference that was organized by the city of Taipei and that closed earlier today focused more than ever before on the business aspects of cycling. The 4-day Conference had 2 Industry Day's during which for instance future sales projections for e-bikes by Bosch came to light. Or that the city of Copenhagen calculated that every kilometer cycled instead of using a car saves USD 90 cents!

CIC members are leading cycling industry companies and, together with the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF), the CIC network promotes cycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transport in society, business and politics.

TAIPEI, Taiwan - The total number of overseas entries for the Taipei Cycle d&i Awards increased by nearly 40% this year. "This clearly shows that this award is widely recognized by the international community," said TAITRA President Peter Huang this afternoon at the award ceremony. Nevertheless five out of six Gold Awards were handed over to Taiwan based companies.
