Undeniably European e-bike sales took a step back last year. In 7 European countries who already reported their market statistics for 2023, the total volume decreased by 8%, from 4,555,264 units in 2022 to 4,178713 last year.
In a competitive market, drive system manufacturers have focused on various strategies during 2023. Development has focused on both an optimal riding experience and integrated technologies. After electrification, connectivity is the new standard for high-end and mid-range e-bikes, meaning a new generation of smart mobility devices are being created. Also an increasing average retail price and rising e-bike thefts have given a boost to the market of digital anti-theft devices. In this online magazine the latest innovations are explored.

FRANKFURT, German - In the first half of 2022 e-bike and bicycle sales in Germany nearly matched the record levels of 2021. Despite inflation, supply chain problems and the war in Ukraine, the German industry association ZIV is very content with the first half results. "However a recent development of the past few weeks is that we see a depressed consumer demand," said ZIV MD Burkhard Stork today at the industry discussion ahead of the opening of Eurobike.
