Portugal's EU-funded AM2R programme is entering its final stretch. With the €113.8 million Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), scheduled to conclude in June, it has become a defining industrial policy project for the Portuguese two-wheeler sector; from higher-value product development to advanced manufacturing, and exportable innovation.

As Portugal's AM2R programme nears completion at the end of 2025, the country's two-wheel industry stands transformed. Launched with the backing of the EU's Recovery and Resilience Plan, the project managed to unite 47 companies and institutional partners under the coordination of ABIMOTA, Portugal's national two-wheeler association.

Now in its 50th year, after starting Portugal Bike Value and BIKiNNOV, ABIMOTA is launching AM2R; an initiative set to redefine the future of the industry with more than 200 companies under its belt.

ÁGUEDA, Portugal - 'Present and Future' is the theme of the international conference focused on the two-wheel sector next week on Wednesday, 28 May. Organised by ABIMOTA's Bike Value Innovation Centre Association, the one-day conference will highlight key industry innovations in Portugal as well as market developments in major European countries.

The AM2R project ('Agenda Mobilizadora para a Inovação Empresarial do Setor das Duas Rodas' - Mobilizing Agenda for Business Innovation in the Two-Wheel Sector) will have a significant presence at Eurobike 2025, demonstrating the growing capabilities of the Portuguese bicycle, e-bike, and soft mobility industry.

AGUEDA, Portugal - 2022 proved to be a very successful year for the Portuguese bicycle and e-bike industry. The total export value increased by no less than 37% from €594 million in 2021 to more than €800 million in 2022. It makes Portugal the largest bike producer in Europe.
