GENEVA, Switzerland - The UN 'Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026-2035)' might give a boost to the promotion of cycling on a global scale. On behalf of the international bicycle industry, gathering at the World Bicycle Industry Association WBIA, Manuel Marsilio explored how this will give a follow-up to the Masterplan for Cycling Promotion.

BERLIN, Germany - Eyeing the upcoming federal elections, the advocacy organization Zukunft Fahrrad (Bicycle Future), issued a position paper campaigning for more political support for the bicycle industry. The new government in Germany will have to make clear policy choices as the cycling industry is not the only sector that's facing challenges and thus calling for support.

BRUSSELS, Belgium - The presentation of the manifesto for the EU term 2024-2029 by industry confederation CONEBI in Brussels last week, gave the cycling industry the opportunity to discuss the agenda with European institutions for the next five years. Hosted by EU member of parliament Thomas Pellerin-Carlin, the industry representatives and the EU Commission discussed plans and projects to come to reality.

BRUSSELS, Belgium - Cycling as a lever for economic growth was the key message of the CIE 2024 Summit on October 2, organised by Cycling Industries Europe in partnership with the Benelux Union. Over 200 attendees discussed a blueprint for cycling industry policies heeding the EU Declaration on Cycling's call for the 'development of a world class cycling industry'.

LONDON, United Kingdom - In a move to deter consumer fears about e-bike battery safety, the UK cycling sector, including industry trade bodies and an e-bike alliance which includes Bosch eBike Systems have joined forces in a national 'E-bike Positive' campaign. Not only an educational resource, but it will also encourage UK policymakers to better protect consumers and call on industry stakeholders to be more attentive.

LONDON, UK - The British capital has seen a 63% increase in cargo bikes from 2022 to 2023 according to analysis by Clean Cities. Not surprisingly the cargobike industry campaigns for a fair share of the €115 million fund which has been committed by Transport for London for businesses to scrap polluting vans. None of these millions have been dedicated to accelerate the uptake of cargo bikes.
