The Panasonic company carries true bicycle DNA: Bicycle production began in 1952, and the first e-bike for Japan was launched back in 1980. That makes Panasonic one of the real e-bike pioneers. With 200,000 employees globally and a bicycle division of around 600 specialists, mostly engineers, it is the bike brand of Japan, a manufacturer driven by constant development and precision.
Panasonic introduced its first mid-drive system for Europe in 2013, followed by the sporty GXM platform in 2018, which was continuously improved to market needs.
Lightweight strength with real refinement
The new GXM 105 system, launched in 2025, delivers 105Nm of torque in a lightweight package: 2.6kg, thanks to a magnesium motor housing. A smart three-point motor mounting improves stiffness and ensures no loss of power under load. But the real highlight is not torque. It’s intelligence.

Auto Mode: the e-bike that thinks ahead
Panasonic’s new Auto Mode works like an automatic transmission for the e-bike world. The system continuously adjusts motor support between 20 and 105Nm, based on pedaling input and riding conditions. Instead of constantly switching between modes, the rider can focus on the ride, whether urban traffic or technical single trails.
The system learns with every pedal stroke, quickly adapting to riding style. For example, many riders climb hills at inefficient low cadence, even though the optimal uphill cadence is around 78rpm. The GXM system recognises this and delivers exactly the right support, not more, not less, saving battery while keeping the ride smooth. Riders can still choose manual control via Eco, Standard, Auto, and High, but Panasonic believes Auto will become the new standard, on- and off-road.

Digital, open, and ready for OEM flexibility
The GXM system features a fully integrated digital ecosystem: smartphone connectivity, app control, and Komoot navigation integration. It also supports multiple battery options, including Panasonic’s own 36V packs, plus trusted partners like Greenway, BMZ, and PortaPower.
Panasonic’s automatic mode in the best possible option with Enviolo Automatic is currently under development, to be released soon. Furthermore, many other connections with the GXM system are underway.
Local support that OEMs can trust
For European customers, Panasonic backs its technology with a dedicated team in Munich, covering sales, marketing, product management, and OE service. Since early 2026, dealer service operations are managed by Messingschlager, providing high-level service support across Europe.
Reliability is key for Panasonic, something consumers experience every day, touching their smartphone buttons over and over. With the GXM 105, the company proves that the next e-bike revolution isn’t about more watts. It’s about riding smarter, more efficient and safer.
