Subscribers only Tariff uncertainty causes shift in US bicycle import landscape

2025 proved to be a year of tariff changes, geopolitical shifts and withheld imports in the United States bicycle market, leading to significant shifts in a market where China had previously enjoyed a stronghold. China's market share fell from 85% in 2024 to 67% in 2025. In actual numbers, around 5.7 million units were imported into the US from China, a 40% drop compared to 2024. In total, bicycle imports into the US only dropped 21%, meaning someone made considerable gains - Cambodia.

Cambodia strengthens position in US and EU bike markets as January exports surge

Bicycle and e-bike exports from Cambodia soared by 69% in January this year. The export value reached $64 million (€55 million), up from $38 million (€33 million) in January 2025, according to the country's Ministry of Commerce. Bolstered by improved market access, regional supply integration and a competitive manufacturing base poised for further expansion, Cambodia's bicycle industry has entered 2026 on a solid footing. The growth of e-bike assembly is undoubtedly playing a major role as well.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - As a long-term bicycle exporter, Cambodia is now rapidly expanding its production of e-bikes for overseas markets. The bicycle factories in the special economic zones (SEZs) in Bavet City seem to have survived the drop in exports since 2023 and are now stepping into the e-bike market as well.

Subscribers only Q2 e-bike import figures put a dampener on EU market recovery

BRUSSELS, Belgium - During the first six months of 2025, 312,000 e-bikes were imported into the European Union, the latest data from Eurostat shows. This is a 9% drop compared to the same period last year. As predicted, the positive signs of a full market recovery in Q1 have not continued into Q2. Cambodia sees revival of bicycle exports in 2025

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - Together, the five bicycle factories in Cambodia, which all located close to the border with Vietnam, have seen a revival of their export business in the first half of this year. Production had diminished in the past years due to the excess inventory in Europe and the US, in combination with the supply chain constraints.

Cambodia gradually shifting exports from bicycles to e-bikes

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - The slow recovery of the Cambodian bicycle export to the European Union prompted the country's five assemblers to look for new markets.
