    FRANKFURT, Germany - Eurobike marked the fourth edition of the Women in Cycling breakfast. Growing from humble beginnings with a few participants to a raucous reception for this year's speakers. This is no longer a simple networking event to bind a minority group together, but a movement looking to evolve the face of the industry. Data is now at the forefront as initiatives focus on, amongst other things, closing the gender equity pay gap. The number of new national women-driven networks being launched this year alone, shows that the momentum is not just growing, it's becoming unstoppable.

    Italian Exhibition Group acquires country's leading bicycle show

    RIMINI, Italy - The Italian Bike Festival has grown increasingly significant for the cycling industry since 2018, following the decline in relevance of EICMA-Milan in recent years. The most recent edition at Misano Circuit in September 2024 featured more than 600 brands and 57,000 end consumers and industry professionals. The successful event has been taken over by the Italian Exhibition Group.

    Merida expands e-bike production to meet increasing demand

    CHANGUA, Taiwan - The long-awaited turnaround from a declining to a rising bicycle market is becoming increasingly visible. Industry leaders remain cautious in their forecasts but dare to express themselves more positively. This was already clear last week at Eurobike. Merida Industry's financial report for the first half of 2025, in combination with their statement "to gradually expand our e-bike production capacity," indicates that the company is once more regaining trust in its future.

    SRAM acquires Italian component manufacturer

    CHICAGO, USA - During the process of drivetrain development in an attempt to make descending better, SRAM came across the spider manufacturer Ochain. "After we learned about the performance of their product, we decided to buy them," explains SRAM product manager Flynn George. How much SRAM paid for Ochain is unknown for the moment.

    Can solid-state solutions challenge the dominance of lithium-ion e-bike batteries?

    SUZHOU, China - Semi solid-state batteries are lightweight, fast-charging and offer enhanced safety giving them the potential to be a game-changer for the e-bike industry. At least this is the vision of Chinese manufacturer T&D who is developing a semi-solid state e-bike battery which provides 830Wh at only 3.2kg. Small-scale production is expected to commence this year.

    "Software now outweighs hardware in e-bike development"

    AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands - Yamaha unveiled its new PW-Link e-bike system at this year's Eurobike. The Japanese manufacturer made all its e-drive components interchangeable and fully connected, allowing e-bike manufacturers to specify the same frame with multiple PW-Link combinations and offer a greater variety of e-bike options to consumers. Fabio Marzola, Yamaha Motor Europe's Division Manager of eBike Drive Units & Systems, explains the company's position on the market and their opinion on regulatory issues in Europe.

    Folding e-bike maker Eovolt rebrands to UTO as it broadens portfolio

    LYON, France - Folding e-bike manufacturer Eovolt has its sights set on being more than just that. To support further internationalisation and entry into other non-electric categories, the French manufacturer is rebranding to UTO. "It is a new name to symbolise the brand we have become over the years," CEO Baptiste Fullen told Bike Europe during Eurobike.

    Kellys and BMZ reportedly collaborating on high-density battery

    VELKE ORVIŠTĚ, Slovakia - Bicycle brand Kellys and battery manufacturer BMZ are reportedly working on a European-assembled e-bike battery with a higher energy density than the latest DJI Avinox or Bosch Powertube 800. Looking to outpace rivals, the goal is reportedly to create the world's lightest e-bike battery with a capacity above 800 Wh.

    EU crackdown: Calypso operation targets Chinese e-bike smuggling

    LUXEMBOURG, Luxembourg - Chinese e-bikes have once again been implemented in a customs fraud case involving the evasion of duties when importing products into the EU market. Under the code-name Calypso, a complex scheme was exposed which led to raids across several EU member states. The total damage of the activities under investigation is estimated at approximately €700 million, although it is unclear how much of this is directly attributed to e-bike fraud.
