PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - The slow recovery of the Cambodian bicycle export to the European Union prompted the country's five assemblers to look for new markets. The once leading importer of bicycles into the EU-27 is also facing fierce competition of other major bicycle exporting countries like China and Bangladesh.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - The group of five bicycle making companies in Cambodia are quickly losing ground on the international bicycle market. Once moved quickly from Vietnam to Cambodia for beneficial import rates at its main markets years ago, it is now rapidly losing market share to China, Taiwan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - The plunge in demand for bicycles made in Cambodia which started last year has not yet come to an end. Cambodia's bicycle export value fell 43% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2024, a General Department of Customs and Excise's report confirms today.

PHNOM PENH - The Cambodians were still hoping for better times and more export to cater for the seasonal festivals in the Western countries in the fourth quarter of 2023. But the bicycle warehouses in Europe and North America are still packed and Cambodia's bicycle export value is almost back at the same level as in 2019.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - Cambodian bicycle manufacturers are being hit hard by the decline in demand on the global market. The double digit decrease in export value announced earlier this year is only growing bigger.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - As rapidly as bicycle exports increased during and in the aftermath of the pandemic, Cambodia is now losing this trade again. In the first half of this year, the five bicycle factories in the country, all located in SEZs of Svay Rieng province lost a third of their business.
