    Sponsored EU-backed initiative AM2R sees Portugal's two-wheel industry thrive

    ABIMOTA, Portugal's national two-wheeler association, is working closely with the EU to bring bicycle production back home. Now in its 50th year, after starting Portugal Bike Value and BIKiNNOV, ABIMOTA is launching AM2R; an initiative set to redefine the future of the industry with more than 200 companies under its belt.

    WBIA members re-elect president Erhard Büchel

    GENEVA, Switzerland - The members of the World Bicycle Industry Association (WBIA) have agreed that the WBIA Secretariat will continue to be managed by CONEBI in 2021. During their annual General Assembly last Wednesday, they also confirmed that current president of CONEBI Erhard Büchel will act as president of WBIA for the next year.

    Retirement beckons for PeopleforBikes president Tim Blumenthal

    BOULDER, United States - Tim Blumenthal, president of US organisation, PeopleForBikes is retiring after 16 years at the helm. Having spent the last four decades working in the bike industry he will hand over the reins to Jenn Dice, the organisation's current COO as of July 1, 2020.

    WBIA joins WHO's sustainable transport taskforce

    GENEVA, Switzerland - The World Bicycle Industry Association (WBIA) has been invited to participate in a new taskforce which is a joint body of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations (UN) to develop 'Principles of Green and Healthy Sustainable Transport'.

    Vital role for e-bike industry in EU's Recovery Strategy

    BRUSSELS, Belgium - "The upcoming European Commission proposal for the Recovery Strategy will embed the main elements of the European Green Deal, building on smart and clean mobility, which is at the core of the bicycle industry," stated the European Commission DG for EU Market and Industry in a letter to the industry confederation CONEBI.

    German industry stands up for more cycling support

    BAD SODEN, Germany - The promotion of cycling as preferred transport mode during and after the COVID-19 crisis has been picked up around Europe. However, in Germany, the automotive industry's demand to support car purchases to compensate for corona-related failures provoke a lot of negative reactions. In a joint effort the Germany bicycle industry and partners called for a mobility premium for everyone, including e-bikes and not only for cars.
