The 2026 Eurobike, the European International Bicycle Trade Show, drew to a close at Messe Frankfurt after four days of intensive industry exchange. Folding-bike innovator DAHON captured attention with the debut of its new 'DAHON-V' technology suite and a portfolio of new bicycles built around it.

Taiwan's bicycle industry signalled that it was entering a bold new era at this year's Taipei Cycle Show. Under the guidance of Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Cycling & Health Tech Industry R&D Centre (CHC) unveiled a suite of R&D achievements, highlighting the strategic integration of Taiwan's bicycle manufacturing with advanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT). A key feature was the Cycling Common Protocol Alliance (CCPA), launched to enhance system interoperability and strengthen collaboration across the bicycle and ICT industries.

German innovator Fidlock, known for its magnet-mechanical fastening systems, has entered into a strategic partnership with Twiceme Technology to boost bicycle helmet safety. By embedding Twiceme's NFC-based solution directly into a component which every helmet already requires, the collaboration enables OEM partners to integrate connected safety functionality without fundamental product redesign.

Viiala, the Swiss-based mobility company, has entered a strategic partnership with Spoke to integrate its V2X technology directly into its premium e-bikes. This integration ensures that Viiala bikes will be seen by equipped cars in real time, even without line of sight, making Viiala one of the first premium e-bike brands to offer vehicle awareness as a built-in capability.

The influx of new concepts and ideas in the rapidly expanding bicycle and e-bike industry leads to market entry by less experienced company founders. "They don't have the business expertise, don't know business fundamentals when it comes to the legal set-up of an entity, marketing and pricing, let alone funding," said Zoe Rose Maddox of the Arkansas Global Cycling Accelerator. "We target the group that is ready to scale and fine-tune their operation."

Bolt has expanded its shared micromobility fleet with the introduction of its first entirely in-house e-bike. With their design vision, Bolt aimed to reset expectations of what shared cycling can offer riders and cities. The scale and integration of various smart technologies make this a statement product for the future of e-bike developments.
