FUELL Flluid: Is this the future of e-bikes?

In a world where we spend much of our time commuting, it's great to see new technologies making commutes easier and more convenient. And when it comes to that, the Flluid-2 and Flluid-3 stand out. FUELL's new e-bikes combine some unexpected features and performance.

Launched under the FUELL brand by Erik Buell — the renowned engineer and founder of the BUELL motorcycle company which had a long run with Harley Davidson — these e-bikes are the second iteration after the successful launch of the first-gen Flluid e-bikes back in 2019.

World’s longest range

One of the standout features of the Flluid e-bikes are their exceptional range. The Flluid-2 comes with 2 removable 1000W batteries (2000W total) and a max assisted range of 225 mi (350 km), which makes it not only the longest-range e-bike in its class, but also in the world.

The Flluid-3 has a step-through design for easier mounting and dismounting, with a single 1000W battery that can do 110 mi (180 km). The rest of its features are identical to that of the Flluid-2.

Both versions are Class 2/Pedelec as default to be road legal without requirements, but customers can opt for Class 3 (S-pedelec) versions that come with unlocked motor power and higher max speeds (but require insurance and registration, depending on the rider’s location).

With unlocked speeds, both e-bikes will reach up to 20 mph (32 km/h) in the US or 25 km/h (15 mph) in Europe. For those seeking a faster ride, the S-versions (Flluid-2S and Flluid-3S) are capable of reaching speeds of up to 28 mph (45 km/h) in both the US and EU versions. Backers on Indiegogo can opt for unlocking their Flluid at no additional cost.

Automatic and predictive shifting

In a bold move towards enhancing e-bike performance, FUELL has partnered with Valeo, a world-renowned automotive technology supplier, to equip their Flluid-2 and Flluid-3 models with their all-new Valeo mid-drive unit.

One of the standout features of this mid-drive system is its impressive 7-speed automatic and predictive shifting capabilities — which automatically adjusts the gear ratios based on riding conditions to ensure optimal performance and a smooth, effortless ride. Furthermore, the mid-drive turns out a powerful 130 Nm torque and can provide up to 450% assistance.

Connectivity and security system

Flluid-2 and 3 also come with a connectivity and security system built into the frame. This system works in unison with the FUELL Rider smartphone app, and allows users to remotely lock/unlock their e-bike, view live location data (GPS tracking), access ride data and statistics, and receive maintenance alerts.

As an added layer of protection, the e-bikes come equipped with an anti-theft warning system, which alerts owners on their smartphone when the e-bike is moved from its original position.

Low maintenance

A major concern that many have when it comes to their e-bike is maintenance. Flluid e-bikes are designed with parts that require minimal upkeep, due to the inclusion of high-quality parts from reputable brands. The carbon belt drive runs quieter than classic bike chains and is maintenance free without the need for lubrication or timely adjustments.

Transforming the way you ride

The Flluid-2 and 3 e-bikes enter the arena of electric mobility with a compelling set of features. The combination of a long range, automatic gearbox, and embedded connectivity system, has the potential to transform the way we experience e-bikes. Of course, individual experiences may vary, and one may want to consider their riding preferences and requirements before investing in this e-bike. But one thing's for sure — the new Flluid e-bikes are a truly refreshing and welcoming change from other e-bikes on the market.
