A&C Solutions powers Van Raam's e-trike with smart Higo connectors

A&C Solutions joins forces with Van Raam to launch a water-tight adaptive tricycle at this year's Eurobike 2025. But behind the scenes of this innovative debut lies a story of close collaboration — one that highlights the power of strategic partnerships.

A&C Solutions is an expert and distributor of high-quality connectors, including the Higo brand. It is best known for its comprehensive and customisable connector solutions within the e-mobility market.

More recently, the company has played a key role in guiding leading Dutch specialist in adaptive bicycles Van Raam through the process of finding an appropriate connector for its new Thuja e-trike.

Smart connections through trusted partnerships

The collaboration began in April 2022. At that moment, Van Raam was on the lookout for a high-quality, waterproof connector at a competitive price. The company also had to ensure that it complied with market expectations, like the CE and UL standards.

“At the time, we were developing a new display and needed something both reliable and affordable,” says Rick de Jonge, electrical engineer at Van Raam. “That’s when we first connected with A&C Solutions, and their advice and sample products really stood out to us.”

During the development phase, Van Raam knew which cables and connectors it needed for the most part, but relied on A&C Solutions for its expert opinion. For example, when selecting the connector for the speed sensor, the partner proposed a different solution to what Van Raam had initially considered.

The right specifications for peace of mind

Jannes Christiaensen, key account manager at A&C Solutions explains, “We don’t just deliver connectors; we deliver peace of mind. We understand each customer’s application and help them choose solutions that are technically sound, compliant, and cost-effective.”

A&C Solutions’ established partnership with OEM supplier Higo meant that the company is able to develop e-bike connectors that meet the specifications of certain clients’ needs. In this specific case, no custom connectors were developed. But the components used were carefully selected for fit, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

The Micro Q connector series is known for its compact size, watertight integrity, and user-friendly push-pull operation.

Introducing the Thuja

This year’s new three-wheeler model, the Thuja, is Van Raam’s response to the growing demographic of “Silver Generation” retirees who still desire mobility, independence, and style. This group is expected to double in size over the next few years, and the company intends to meet their needs head-on.

The Thuja e-trike uses Higo’s Micro Q connector series. This series is known for its compact size, watertight integrity, and user-friendly push-pull operation. “The cables are nice and thin, the connector is small, and it fits nicely into the design,” De Jonge adds. “We used the same cable in a previous project, and everyone was really happy with it.”

The Thuja also features:

  • two wheels in the front and one in the back,
  • added balance for riders with reduced stability,
  • practical storage while subtly masking the tricycle’s appearance,
  • a design that combines functionality, dignity, and style to reduce stigma around three-wheelers.

Moving forward

What truly sets A&C Solutions and Higo apart, according to Van Raam, is their reliability and responsiveness. “They always deliver on time, which allowed us to move quickly,” says De Jonge. “They’re also prepared to go that extra mile when needed, and that flexibility is extremely valuable to us.”

A&C Solutions’ warehouse in Belgium also allows them to maintain stock from its suppliers and keep delivery times short. “Whether it’s a few hundred units or a mass production run, we’re built to scale,” says Christiaensen. “And we have a robust network across Europe to ensure that customers receive localised support.”

Accessible mobility for confident users

While the official market launch of the new Thuja trike is still pending, it represents the next evolution in Van Raam’s mission to make mobility accessible, comfortable, and stylish. The company wants to create solutions that give users confidence and independence, customising bikes to fit the unique physical needs of each individual. With roughly 15,000 to 16,000 bikes produced annually within Europe, it stands strong in its commitment to quality and sustainability.

“A&C Solutions gave us more than just good connectors,” says De Jonge. “They gave us a reliable partnership that truly understands what we’re trying to do—help more people ride with confidence.”
