    Bafang ramps up automation while Chinese e-bike standards tighten

    Chinese drive-system manufacturer Bafang says its products are currently used on more than 20 million e-bikes worldwide. To support that scale, the company has focused on streamlining production and increasing automation at its manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China.

    Giant backs semi-solid state batteries as T&D scales production in China

    Long praised as the next frontier in e-bike batteries, T&D has begun production of semi-solid-state batteries for e-motorcycles and e-bikes. Assembled on a semi-automatic production line in Suzhou, China, the company already has its first customers — the biggest being Giant. With its next-generation e-bike just launched, Giant is one of the first to successfully transition semi-solid-state battery technology from a laboratory concept to a commercial reality for the e-bike market.

    Clock ticking for battery passports as compliance date enters final year

    Starting 18 February, 2027, the European Union will mandate a digital battery passport for all light means of transport (LMT) batteries, including e-bikes, to enhance sustainability and traceability. This digital record, accessed via QR code, will contain detailed information on the battery's composition, carbon footprint, technical performance and lifecycle. With one year to go, various solutions and regulatory clarity for the e-bike market are beginning to take shape.

    Indonesia becoming strategic alternative for non-China made e-bike batteries

    Global supply chain diversification has accelerated with major e-bike brands actively seeking qualified non-China manufacturing partners. Chinese battery manufacturer, Greenway, has addressed this critical market need by securing Certificate of Origin (COO) certification for its production facility in Indonesia. This establishes a fully compliant, non-China production base for its e-bike batteries, enabling it to serve global markets with reduced trade barriers and a more resilient supply chain.

    SKion ups stake in BMZ Group with takeover of struggling business units

    BAD HOMBURG, Germany - Existing minority shareholder, SKion GmbH has acquired "two significant business units" from the BMZ Group. BMZ Holding GmbH and BMZ Germany GmbH faced uncertainty when a sudden disruption in the customer base and subsequent legal proceedings led to an immediate financial challenge for the lithium-ion battery manufacturer. The acquisition is subject to approval by the antitrust authorities.
