TERNDRUP, Denmark - As part of its continued growth investments, Danish online bike retailer Cykelgear, has merged with fellow Danish e-commerce business, Cykelpartner. Although the agreement unites the two online platforms under the same corporate group, both will continue to operate as independent brands in Denmark. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

The number of non- electric bicycles imported into the country rose again following sharp declines since 2021, the latest US customs data shows. However, with China as the leading supplier, the market remains uncertain.

BRUSSELS, Belgium - That 2024 was a challenging year for European e-bike markets is no secret. How bad though, is now revealed in the latest EU e-bike import statistics published by Eurostat. The volume of e-bikes imports dropped 27% year-on-year to 642,000 units, slipping below the pre-covid level of 705,000 units in 2019. The import value fared even worse, with a 33% drop year-on-year.

DRESDEN, Germany - After a strong final quarter in 2024, German e-commerce bicycle retailer Bike 24 Holding AG says it has not only confirmed its return to growth, but has also fully achieved its year 2024 profitability target. However, the full results for the 2024 financial year will not be published until March 26.

Despite the negative effects of 2024's economic slowdown and excess inventory struggles, hGears AG remains confident that its new cost and structural measures are having a positive effect.

"This investment confirms confidence in the project, supported by significant growth metrics in transactions and the availability of various bicycle models on the platform," says Bikeflip CEO Andrea Maranelli.

SHIZUOKA, Japan - The situation for the Japanese bicycle industry becomes even more challenging now that sales and production numbers for 2024 have turned out to be lower again for the consecutive year. For the first time in decades, domestic production fell below the 700,000 unit mark. Import volumes saw single-digit growth, but remained below the 5 million unit mark.

GDANSK, Poland - Polish manufacturer 7Anna, owner of the cycling brands Rondo, NS Bikes and Creme Cycles, has filed for insolvency. A Polish industry leader in recent years, the 24-year-old company had become known for its diverse range of bikes, from Rondo's gravel bikes to Creme's urban riders. "We are in ongoing talks with investors and we have strong hopes that these negotiations will end successfully. If this plan works out, our brands and team will be able to continue moving forward, and we may even shift into fifth gear," explains founder Szymon Kobylinski in an update on the company's status.
